• The Challenge
Crowded interface. Friction in the checkout flow. User drop-off.
The original Bakkal app overwhelmed users with too much content and unclear navigation. Product discovery was difficult, and the checkout process had unnecessary steps. Multilingual users found the experience visually inconsistent and hard to trust.
Bakkal app onboarding flow – Mobile UI guiding users through welcome screens, location setup, and grocery preferences for personalized experience
Bakkal app icon – Bold and colorful mobile icon representing a multicultural grocery shopping experience
Streamlined checkout process in Bakkal app – Simplified steps for quick and secure grocery order completion
• The Vision
A clean, culturally inclusive shopping experience.
We set out to create a smooth, welcoming app that feels intuitive across languages and cultures. The goal was a layout that prioritizes visuals over text, helps users find what they need quickly, and feels consistent with the trusted grocery store experience - only online.
Bakkal store management system – Admin interface for vendors to manage inventory, update pricing, and track grocery orders in real time
Bakkal order summary screen – Mobile UI showing grocery items, pricing breakdown, and checkout confirmation details
Bakkal track order screen – Real-time delivery tracking interface displaying driver location, estimated arrival, and status updates
• Our Approach
Empathy-driven design for a multicultural audience.
We began by studying how different communities shop—what items matter most, how they search, and which elements influence trust. Then we redesigned the information architecture, simplified the cart flow, and restructured category browsing. Visual hierarchy, iconography, and image-led layouts were key.
Bakkal logo – Brand identity for a multicultural grocery delivery platform designed to reflect diversity and accessibility
Bakkal user journey map – Visual flow illustrating user steps from onboarding to ordering, checkout, and delivery tracking
Bakkal app design system – UI components including buttons, forms, icons, and color palette for consistent mobile app experience
• The Result
A mobile app that brings local grocery stores into users’ hands.
We helped Bakkal transform their app into a visual-first, trusted marketplace that meets the needs of multicultural shoppers in California. With an improved structure, personalized UX, and simpler checkout - users now shop faster, trust the experience more, and return regularly.
Bakkal app low-fidelity wireframes – Early UX layouts mapping grocery browsing, checkout flow, and user onboarding experience
Bakkal app final UI screens – Polished mobile designs showcasing category browsing, order management, and multilingual interface
